Is credit card receipt enough for VAT?

If I buy something from a shop and they just give me the credit card receipt copy, is this enough for the vat man?

No, and neither is the receipt given out by PC World//Currys and all the other shops in DSG. Nor indeed are most service station receipts. You need to ask for a VAT receipt. OTOH just about anything seems work as a receipt when it comes to offsetting expenses against income tax, so even if you can't reclaim the VAT, you should be able to file the credit card receipts against income tax.
