is there a way to find out who owns a house via the land registry

hi , is there a way to find out who owns a house via the land registry with a small fee? , i 've seen a run down place that looks unlived in , but am unsure how to find out who owns the property , as it looks like some T.L.C and the right price could just make a sensible investment...

TIA

If it's registered the Land Registry will sell you the latest details for £3, but whether that includes address of the owner I don't know..

Yes, you can do it from their web page for £2.

I think you'll find it is currently £3. That's inflation for you (unless your £2 was just a typo).

No typo, it was £2 last time I looked. That was some time ago though.

It will include the address of the owner at the time of registration, so it could well be out of date now.

Does this mean that if another person has been added to the title since registration that this will not show? There is a property I would like to know who owns it - but if what you say is right I may be wasting my time.

No, that should show, since if it's a registered property the only way TO 'add another person' is to update the land registry data (at some expense). I guess there could be a will/transfer floating around which has not yet been sent to the registry, but until that happens then the ownership hasn't actually changed.

The point is that the land registry registers WHO owns it, not where the who lives, or what their phone number, date of birth, and inside leg measurement might (currently) be.

It's worth getting the deeds from the land registry. They usually show not only who owns it, but also when the bought it and what they paid for it, who the mortgage lender was etc etc. You get anice plan of the local area too, with the property marked in red. Typically though the owner's address is shown as being the property address.
