Nationwide Credit Card - Abroad?

Regarding the Credit Card: for overseas cash withdrawals, does it make any difference at all if there is a credit balance on the account (ie loaded) when drawing out cash from cash machines?

Basically is there still a credit charge for cash withdrawals even the money is not being borrowed but being instead being taken from an account with funds?

Just trying to work out what is the cheapest possible method all round. Many thanks!

if you load up the card with funds then as you say you don't get charged any interest. Either that or get yourself a nationwide flexaccount instead.

sorry - just realised I didn't answer your question. Not sure.

I'm currently getting charged 2%, minimum 1.50, when I draw cash with my Visa debit card from an account (well) in credit. I suspect that you will still be charged.

I think you still get charged the "cash handling" fee, you just avoid getting charged interest.

Cheapest possible way is to open a flex account and withdraw cash from that. That's even cheaper than paying for stuff by credit card in those establishments which rip you off by using dynamic currency conversion (where they covert the currency to pounds at the POS with a nice bit of commission built into the rate) - you can't avoid this using a Nationwide credit card.

In Sweden most retailers seem happy to give cashback on credit cards.

Yes you can, with any card. Customer MUST be given a choice whether to accept charges in local currency or billing currency (through DCC). Insist on being charged in local currency, and if they refuse, ask them to void the transaction or tell them you ask for chargeback from your card issuer.

That's interesting. The chap in front of me in the supermarket yesterday did this. I assumed that he had a debit card. perhaps not

I suggest that you should be the one to write to Molly Malone and tell him he is ignoring yet another rule and suggest that he change his web site to comply.

When I was there a few years back I found this (after using the hole in the wall for several months). It does seem to vary though. IIRC the Rimi had a limit of 300SEK and the Ra"tt Pris (excuse spelling) would only do cash-back on Swedish cards (or at least the one cashier I asked). The Vivo in the town where I lived gave out 5000SEK on one occasion though.
