New property purchase: NHBC guarantee vs Architects certificate?

I am in the process of buying a property and have just received the solicitors report and discovered that the new build does not come with a NHBC guarantee (despite being told the contrary by estate agent) but an Architects Certificate valid for 6 years will be supplied instead!

Why would a new property not be supplied with the usual 10 year NHBC guarantee?? Is this something to be suspicious about?

How does an Architects Certificate differ from a NHBC guarantee. In the event that something goes wrong is the Architects Certificate worth the paper it's written on??
