NIC for blokes over 60.

Hello all. For several years, as a male mum, I earned a bit of cash on a self-employed basis, filled in the self-assessment form and paid £2 a week Class 2. This income dwindled to a three-figure sum, and my tax office told me not to bother to send in a self-assessment form unless the situation changed. Eventually that source of income reached zero. When I became 60 last year I stopped paying Class 2 altogether, because I learned that I would get an auto-credit of NIC if no other contributions were forthcoming from me. Now I have found something more interesting to do which will earn a bit of money, but only a bit, so far as I know. Am I correct in thinking that I now have to apply for a Class 2 exemption certificate and start to fill in those wretched self-assessment forms again? And will I lose my auto-credit? They don't make it easy. Any helpful advise welcomed.
