Orchestrated Run on Banks Planned

It depends. If you have £100 in one bank, it's easy. With £1000000 in several banks, not so easy, especially if tied up in fixed term accounts, or is not in a high street bank, or whatever.

Most people I'd guess would be somewhere in between...

It's also highly risky if it's in cash. What will you do with it? Pay it into the bank across the road? Then there's no point, as customers of the other bank will be transferring their money to your bank...

Except they want to know what you are going to do with it:(

Is this along the lines of the email chain that keeps doing the rounds re fuel prices?

i.e, boycott all Shell/Esso petrol stations, buy your fuel elsewhere, apparently it's **guaranteed** to bring fuel prices down.

Yep :-(

I wanted to perform a CHAPS transfer three years ago for the purchase of my new car, a little matter of £16K.

My bank wanted to know what I was spending the funds on.

"That's my business" says I.

"No can do" says the girl on the other end, "we can't release the funds unless you specify a reason".

Sometime recently someone posted a link to a list of the world's free- est countries in terms of personal liberties.......the UK fared fairly well but I guess the proponents didn't factor in things like this.......or the lives of Brazilians electricians, or the like of David Kelly etc............

Could say "I want to spend it" ?

Is it in the T&C anywhere that you must supply a reason?

I was asked if I was going on holiday when I withdrew a large amount (for some building work), I just replied "If only, that would be nice."

FFF. Just tell hem lies, just like you should do when some asshole bank wants to know your mother's maiden name, or some local council busybody must have your ethnicity.

This really is a most despicable arogance on behalf of the bank. I`M afraid this dated paternalism comes from deep within the psyche of the british elite. It is a reinforcement of subjection. Mr.Bean.
