Pay As You Go Credit Card

Hello People,

I know this has prob been asked loads before so i appologise but does anybody know of a UK company where I can get a Pay As You Go (PrePaid) MasterCard/Visa?

I`ve seen a few but they seem to be charging between 50-100 for them, which realisticly im reluctant to pay.

The only one that has been mentioned appears to have problems with actually getting your money back.

I can't see the advantage that would have over a VISA debit card, where the money comes out of a current account as you spend it. Am I missing something?

Debit cards or eftpos cards are only available on certain accounts and may not be offered if you've upset a bank in the past. Pre-paid credit cards (a contradiction I know) could be easy to get and be better than carrying cash. They could also help to manage money by separating and restricting certain payments, as decided by the user (e.g. a self imposed 50 monthly limit on petrol costs). If there are charges for them, it is another case of it being more expensive to be poor.

Sure. But I still can't see it as an *advantage* to have a pre-paid credit card under these circumstances. Wouldn't it just do the trick to put £50 of cash in a separate wallet and stop when it's up?

You can use a VISA Delta card on the Internet, and in France. I still don't get it: why does it have to be a *credi*t card, albeit pre-paid?

Not everyone can get a Visa Delta card.

Simon - Axxess (see above in this thread) are currently changing the bank they used to use for their prepaid credit card and so have nothing to offer at present - however I have recently found out that there is a French bank offering a Current Account with Debit Mastercard - if that's any good to you email me and I'll find out the contact telephone number for you.

Requirements: two month's 'bank' statements, 2 x Utility bill (different utilities, not mobile phone), proof of income, passport and , most bizarrely, proof that you've travelled in France within the last 6 months!

HTH!

Is is cheaper to train in another country e.g.. Australia , downside is you are not qualified to fly in some places e.g.. UK.
