personal loans

All, I am looking to take out a small personal loan to buy a car (about £5k). Our joint income (wife and I) is ~£46k and we have good credit records - so there *shouldn't* be any worries getting a loan. I read an article in the Sunday Times a couple of weeks ago that said people with good credit records often fail to be given the 'typical' rates advertised by lenders. The main reason being that you are more likely to pay it back early and so they up the rate in the hope you'll make them at least a few ££ before you pay it off. Therefore, I am on the lookout for lenders that have 'standard' rates that either you get when you are accepted, or you're rejected. I know egg are one such bank (standard is 7.9% I think). Are there any others ?? I have tried searching with tools such as that at moneyextra.com - but they *all* seem to come up with 'typical' APR results. I dont want to apply, only to have a credit check against my record but then be offered 4-5% above 'typical' (like cahoot have done - and I bank with them!!)

Never heard that before. My girlfriend and I both have good credit records, she's just got a Marbles 5.9 loan with no problems at all.
