Premium bond holding limits

I know the limit is 30000 total. But what is the largest single bond you can hold 1000?

Each bond is £1.

Right, so a single bond certificate can be worth how much? In other words can i hold one 30000 bond certificate or 30 1000 ones?

Bitstring , from the wonderful person Mr-Reece said

You can actually own 300 £100 ones. Last time I looked £100 was the smallest Qty they'd sell. You already know what the largest is.

Like Troy said each bond is £1. You can have upto 30,000 "bonds" @ £1 each (ie £30,000). You have to buy at least £100 in one go.. and the amount has to be a multiple fo £10 thereafter... ie you can buy £100, £110, £120, .... £29960, £29980, £30000 (so long as you don't exceed £30,000)

AFAIK it doesnt matter, its more like an account, where you can cash in all or part at anytime... ie if you bought £30,000 you could cash in part of that amount at a later date.

I suggest you look at

I cant find the answer to this on the web site. A few years ago I bought £2.5k and got a £2k cert and a £500 one. This would indicate some sort of denomination of issue the rules for which I cant find on the web site. I would think a single £30k purchase would result in one cert. The minimum ' new purchase' cert is £100 but you can buy them in ten quid multiples thereafter which may imply a minimum denomination of a tenner. (I.e. £110 purchase = 1 x 100 + 1 x 10)

And, of course, you can still be awarded a 50 quid one as a prize.

I dont think you can ask for 30 x 1000 in application, but you could make 30 applications for £1k.

None this makes any difference to the chance of winning of course.

I dont think that is the question being asked. PSBs are issued as certificates in preset denominations, just like coins and bank notes. I.e. £100, £500 etc., etc.,

They didnt used to be issued in irregular denominations on one certificate, i.e. £2510 would be issued as 1 x 2000 + 1 x 500 + 1 x 10.

Because there is something niggling in my mind that there is a £30k denomination, but I cant find where I saw it.

When I last invested £4000 they split the certificates into 2 x £2000 blocks.

The numbers on the two certificates did form a block of 40000 consecutive numbers.

I wonder if all denominations over 5K are new?

When I took 20K last year (the max at the time), they gave 4 x 5K. When I took an extra 10K when they incresed the limit, they gave 2 x 5K.

Me too. In the past all my purchases (including 10K to take me up to the new

30K limit) were issued as 5K certificates.

I actually doesn't matter how much each certificate is valued at - if you but a block of 30k they will be consecutive numbers

Each time I win* I get sent a 50 pound one.

When I initially bought I got 4* 5000 bonds, have they changed this?

tim

  • sadly, not often enough

Can you tell us how to pay for 4000 bonds and get allocated

40000 numbers? I wish I was that lucky

Perhaps I am wrong then, but why do I have this niggle that I have seen a £30k one? Hmm.

Have they changed the system now? I know they used to issue separate bonds in certain values but now don't they just allocate numbers as needed?

My wife has recently bought £1000 worth. The letter that arrived, headed "Premium Bonds certificate of investment" includes the detail, "Your Premium Bond numbers : 2*****6381 to 2*****7380" ...... which sounds to me like she was merely allocated the next 1000 numbers going. That is, the next person dealt with on their computer system would have got 2*****7381 to whatever, depending upon the number of bonds bought.

So whether you buy £100 or £30000 (at one time) you surely now get just one "certificate of investment" allocating the appropriate number of bond numbers.

You certainly don't seem to get a bond now, just a letter with the numbers on, but I just bought 1500 worth and got 2 letters - 1 wioth 1000 and one with 500, all consecutive numbers so I really don't understand why they needed to send me 2 letters!
