Having seen your E-mail address I'm disinclined to respond, but
Hi , sorry about the email addy , its my no spam policy.
just to ask a basic question , on the various month to month figures , to get to the inflation figure for the year , do i simply add them all together and divide by 12 ??
Thanks .
If you look past the "Story" link, you will find that there are monthly, quarterly and annual index figures for the calendar years at the bottom of the list of available data.. They don't give the actual percentage change, but you can download them as CSV files and put them into a spreadsheet.

nope, you multiply (1+increase) for each of the N months and then take the Nth root to get the average monthly number (and then raise to 12th power to get annual number, etc. etc.) Easiest to work with the raw RPI index number, rather than the % increases.
If you can't find them, send me a working email address and I'll email you an Excel spreadsheet (or whatever) - I have the data back to ~1980, by month.
