i am currently arranging a remortgage for 80000 property worth 135000 current mortgage 43000 i have had a mortgage offer from preffered mortgages since june this year and the solicitors are shoosmiths . i have sent in id for me and my partner my id ok but they still require photo id for my partner she has applied for a passport but taking a long time . the question is can we switch from joint applicants down to just myself so that completion can go ahead without waiting for passport i have filled in the affordability form a while ago any help thanks we have always lived in the uk

Why not ask them. I'm sure they will be able to arrange something if you have enough income on your own.

IME only take a week to get a passport when you send the forms in (and we have done 4 applications in the past year). Why not phone the passport office and find out whats happening. And ask shoosmiths if other id isacceptable, after all not everyone who applies for a mortgage can drive or has a passport.
parkhead be careful. what would happen if your house fell in value to £90,000. which is quite possible.
The banks would not have much security, as long as parkhead could afford the repayments how would it effect him at all?

good point. on second thoughts parkhead you should get the money out of the banks asap before the prices start falling.

That would happen if (s)he didn't re-mortgage, just as much as if (s)he did. There'd still be no worry of negative equity, so what's the problem??
