Furnished or unfurnished?

My friend has a flat in Seville he is trying to rent. He advertises it through an agency, so as a buyer you need to find a list of local agencies.

I think that he is looking for 800 Euro, which seems high to me, but then I'm not looking to move to Spain.

I've no idea how prices in Seville compare to the coast.

We're just about to complete the purchase of a large townhouse in Cocentaina, a small mountain town between Valencia and Alicante. We have lived in the area (see website link in sig) for the past couple of years.

What we would like is to have a tenant occupying the part of the house which has already been renovated to give us an income while we operate on the rest of the house. Because the tenant would effectively have the run of the entire place, references would be required; but because of the possible inconvenience of renovation work elsewhere in the house, the rent would be low - a few hundred Euros a month, to be agreed once the tenant has inspected the property and agreed which bits he/she/they would like to occupy.

If you want a large city, this is not for you. Population is about

12000, Alicante 40 minutes/60km, Valencia 80 minutes/100km. Nearest mid-size town is Alcoy, 65000 pop, 5km away. Cocentaina does however have loads of places to eat, drink and shop, and even a Michelin-rosette restaurant - it's a prosperous small town.

To answer part of the original question, small-town rents for a decent

2-bedroom apartment are about 450 euro, rising to 550-750 in the major cities.

Idealista are showing only one property - a tiny studio - in Alicante town at less than 550/month, and prices on their site for Alicante/El Campello range between 550 and 1000 or more, depending what you need. There are also some interesting ads where they turn out to be holiday lets and the price shown is for a weekend!

Normally the only extras would be electricity and possibly water. First and last months up front is usual.

sorry about the confusion these places were in almeria which is obviously not in such high demand as alicante.

you said first and last months rent does that count as a deposit ?

Effectively. You get the last month's rent refunded after you leave the place in good order. Obviously individual landlords will vary.

Sure you don't want to consider Cocentaina?
