I have been unable to make my mortgage payments, and have received a letter from Halifax Building Society threatening to take legal action if I don't pay an immediate sum of 5000 -- far more than I can afford.
My monthly payment (I am about 9 months in arrears) is 650 pounds, and I have offered to make such payments, but Halifax refuse to accept any payments at all short of £5000.
I have been in difficult circumstances, having lost a job, and having had to undergo surgery. I have been trying to sell the flat but have experienced difficulties.
Rather than sell it, I would rather move and rent my flat.
Would renting the flat help to save it from repossession? Also, if there is a court hearing (as seems inevitable), might Halifax try and demand higher payments on the basis that it is rented property?
Any help and advice would be welcome in this difficult and distressing situation.
