Safe funds

How much can we safely hold in our accounts at the banks. Guaranteed to be paid back if they go TU.

I believe the figure you are looking at is £50,000, however that assume s that the fund can cope with the size of crash. Also this limit is per member of the fund, not per brand. Some brands only have one membership

between them and some brands which are clearly owned by the same owner, have their own memberships.

And Lloyds TSB shares its brand between three different memberships (England, Scotland and Private Banking). Cheltenham & Gloucester is part of the English membership.

However, note that Lloyds TSB Scotland, Cheltenham & Gloucester and Intelligent Finance (part of the Bank of Scotland membership) will demerged to form TSB. You might find in the future that Lloyds TSB Private Banking is merged with St James's Place Bank (Bank of Scotland membership) and possibly some other reorganisations involving Scottish Widows and AMC Bank, which have separate registrations at present.
