Spending dollars?

(bit of a newbie on this stuff)

I've had a reasonable amount of dollars in a us bank account for a few years now and am reluctant to transfer it to the UK because of the unfavourable exchange rate that has been prevalent for while.

I've been thinking of paying for items that I already need in dollars.

for example, I need a new car. I wouldn't want to pay in dollars just to get it converted to sterling, that would defeat the purpose of avoiding the exchange rate.

is it possible to buy goods in dollars abroad, for example for a car that will be imported, but will be suitable for the UK market?

hope I've been clear.

Thanks in anticipation :)

Sterling has tanked today, and is 10% down against the dollar year-on-year.

What you are asking is 'will a US Card Dealer source a car which is legal to drive on UK roads and send it over here'.

This isnt a question for uk.finance,

I suggest you try a specialist car newsgroup.
