STERLING BOND FUND QUERY

I have just been told that my mum is going to tranfser to me the ownership of 35000 which is in a BARCLAYS STERLING BOND FUND. However, she wants me to keep it in there or to move it to something similar. Where do I start trying to find out what this fund is and how it works? Where would I start if I wanted to move it to something with a better return but with no additional risk? I don't need the money and I would be quite happy to take out about 600 a year to spend, leaving the rest untouched. Thanks for any pointers in possible right directions.

Thanks, I had found the site you refer to. I spent some minutes looking at it, but to be honest with you, if you know nothing about a subject, how do you know that you have found a reliable source of information on said subject?!

It seems to be the site of a financial advisor with all the associated bullshit. Some of the things it says are just plain weird - "This link is to a sensitive database. Please click slowly" - rotfl! - I've never come across that one before.

From it's a UK government (aka gilts) and corporate bond fund. Bonds are simply loans that pay annual/quarterly/monthly interest. It appears to be an offshore fund, which presumably pays the interest gross, so if you are a UK taxpayer you will need to declare and pay tax.

The 2 investment categories covered are -

If your mother gives you the blurb, no doubt there will be a phone number for you to ring to get any further details.
