Depends what you mean by "notified".
If you accountant tells you or someone at HMRC in a phone call it can still take a while.
If you get a document from HMRC it should be within a few days.

I got a small refund 2 years back, when i was doing two jobs- that came out of the blue by cheque, with the notice/calculation..
I did my tax return online, they calculated an overpayment, and I received payment 5 days later!
