Tax Relief on interest for loan to buy Shares

Hi,

Can someone tell me if an individual can claim tax relief for the interest on a loan taken to buy shares in listed UK companies in the same way that the interest on a buy-to-let property is allowable?

I would assume that any relief would only be offsettable against dividend income from the shares in question.

Thanks Jeff

A BTL venture is a business. I don't think that buying shares in order to derive income from them is normally deemed to be a business, and therefore the expense of the loan interest cannot be set against that income.

so why does it only attract the personal CGT taper?

By "it" I take it you are referring to BTL property? Good question. Don't ask me. I didn't make the rules. It's a special case.
