Two jobs ... how does the tax work?

If you have a part time job as a student and are on the standard tax rate, what happens if you get another part time job at the same time? Would that also be on the same tax rate? How would employers deal with such a situation when they dont know how much tax you should pay because you are also earning at another job?

Normally the second job uses a 'BR' (basic rate) tax code, on the assumption that your allowances are all used up in the first job, and that you haven't tripped over into higher rate .. at least that's how it used to be, years ago. You have to get the NI sorted out too .. quite possibly the second job will stop 'full class A' NI payments, even though you already paid enough in the first job. All in all it's a complicated mess. 8>.

They have to have slipped an extra zero in there somewhere; Either that or I am out of touch with the size of the black economy, and the total government rake-in.
