A batchelor, I suspect?

Didn't the same thing happen when the Banks put their "funny" money into the housing market?

I wonder what will happen when somebody who lost money because they couldn't keep up their mortgage payments takes a Bank to Court. As the Banks only agree to a mortgage after checking the lenders finacial status it appears to be implicit that the Banks were acting as Finacial Advisors in this instance, and would, presumably, be responsible in law for those losses.

Huh? What has soup-making got to do with this? I suspect you meant to suggest Sam is a bachelor. Why? Are you suggesting the rental market is restricted to small flats (bachelor pads)? I suggest there are plenty of family-size houses and flats available to rent.

Huh? Why should the banks check their own status? They *are* the lender.

I doubt it. Aren't most mortgages arranged through a broker than sold directly by banks?
