Got a PIN notification sent to me by MBNA.
Peel back perforated tab, scrape off grey panel with coin, look at panel against white background .......nothing visible because scraping off the grey panel scrapes off the number!

been there, had the same. However, you can easily look up your pin number on their website, once registered.

exactly what I did

Yes they have now got round to it. Others have been doing this quite a long time.
That doesn't sound very secure. If the pin was stored securely, it shouldn't be possible for anyone to find out what it is, unless they first enter it correctly.

So if you forget your PIN you can only find it out by entering it. ??????????
Keyboard missing. Press F1 to continue.
So what technique are you meant to use to see the number unmolested?
Tiddy Ogg.
I said it was ultra secure, didnt I!
A gold sovereign that has been polished on the thigh of a Tahitian virgin by moonlight may be used to delicately disturb the fine dusty coating over the number written in runic letters using bats urine, the parchment may then be examined by candle light on Michaela's day.
No other method works, believe me.

Well the bank could generate a completely new PIN and send it to you.
Whether the PIN they advise you of is the existing PIN or a new one is irrelevant.
The number is just about visible if you hold the panel against a piece of white paper. This is totally useless for anyone who is visually impaired. My cousin, who is visually impaired, had to ask me to read his PIN for him. Very secure - not!

How does he learn his PIN otherwise?
Its not visible at all, under any circumstances I have tried.
I would have thought, in these days of the Disability Discrimination Act, there would be some alternative for the blind. I've never investigated that however... and we are plagued ever more with these fuzzy pictures that you have to interpret to register to many web sites.
Tiddy Ogg.
Sent it in braille or recorded on a mini CD or something like that.
And which card providers do that? And in the latter case, how secure is that?
Keep rubbing with a coin, but really hard! It appears eventually if you place a piece of paper behind it.
It is, I had one through from MNBA on Saturday for a SonyCard, I thought I'd scrubbed the number out, but you just need to keep going and it appears.
