I really think the added information gives more meaning to typical bar charts.
I was asked what the Slant chart does since it doesn't present any new data. It allows the open/close indicators to be plotted and not get confused with the volume-price data. A typical bar chart has very small open/close 'tick' marks. Those were completely hidden when the volume-price data was plotted. A typical candlestick chart interfered with the viewing of the volume-price data. So, it was necessary to provide the visual information of open/close prices for the interval AND show the volume-price data.
On a side note, some people have said the like the visual aspect of a Slant chart over candlestick or bar charts, but that is just a user preference.
