When will they be stopping the old style 20.00

I'd of thought it would of been at the point where the old 20.00's would be no longer usual in shops etc???? is it normally this long or could it be another year or longer before they decide its new 20.00's only in shops etc?

i believe its a decision that the b.o.e has to make, anyone any idea?

So the answer to your final qu. is quite possibly, but we'll only know when BOE announce it.

You will be able to exchange them at any (English) bank when they have been withdrawn. My son was given a Charles Dickens £10 note in his paper-round wages. I borrowed it to pay for a cinema ticket this week and it was refused. I googled and found the Charles Dickens £10 was withdrawn in 2003. The bank exchanged it, though the young cashier had to ask the old lag what to do.

Does anyone know under what pressure shops are under (legally I suppose) to stop accepting older notes? I have recently taken over running the cash office in a shop, and on the odd occasion a till operator accidentally accepts an old note, I just bank it separately to all the other notes and it goes through no problem. I presume someone higher up will tell me what to do with the old £20s at some stage, but at the moment I cannot see any reason for us not to continue accepting them!
