Does IRS or FTB Withdraw Tax Due?

Does the IRS and Franchise Tax board withdraw money from bank account entered on return for deposit, if money is owed, or does a check need to be sent with yhe return? Don't think they do but just doublechecking.

Both the US Treasury and CA FTB will be more than happy to debit your checking account for the amount due if you properly complete the entries on the tax forms.

This is an Amended Tax return for my 19 year old.

I am sending a check with it. Want to make sure they won't also deduct it. They have his info for depositing, but don't see where they can withdraw? Where would that be on 1040ez, or 540NR?

If you had stated originally that you were asking about an amended return, you would have received a different answer. There is no way to specify an electronic funds transfer on the 1040X or

540X (the forms used to amend federal and CA state taxes) to pay an amount due.

That said, electronic payments for Federal taxes can be made online via the federal EFTPS.com system. I don't know if CA offers that for individuals. I do know they offer electronic transfers for businesses via their own online system using paycalifornia.com

Individuals can pay online via

The account is easier to set up than EFTPS. Individuals can pay 2013 tax, 2013 extension tax for form 3519, amended payment return tax, estimated taxes, etc.

It's just after midnight my local time and the IRS has already hit my bank account for the 4/15 estimated income tax payment for 2014. The CA FTB has not. (My bank will show pending debits that haven't yet cleared in their web interface.)

You need to include a check with your return or estimated tax payments if you didn't set it up.
