Art Student - Supplies tax deductible?

Would an art student at an accredited four year college be able to deduct his or her supplies from taxable income? All the brushes, paints, canvases start to add up. most schools don't
supply those things since students have such a wide variety of preferences. This is in the US - never mind state taxes just looking at the Federal level for the moment.
