"Letter of Self Employment"

Oct 02, 2005 5 Replies

Hello,

I am not an accountant. I am self employed. I have not yet hired an accountant, I know, faux pas. Trying to put one foot in front of the other, and I haven't generated enough income, yet, to have a retained accountant.

I am about to close on a business deal, and I need an "Accountant's Letter of Self Employment".

Is there any way that I can put this together myself, if include my P.O. Box #, my tax ID number, include my registration info (I am registered in the town in which I reside)?

If I have to, sure, I'll hire someone to help me with this, but I'm supposed to have this documentation out on FedEx first thing tomorrow morning.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you.

Never heard of an "Accountant's Letter of Self Employment" but I presume it means what it sounds like, confirmation that you really are in business. That being the case, I think it would be meaningless coming from you; the entire purpose is to provide third-party confirmation from someone in apparent authority and/or professional responsibility.

Leaving this to the very last minute is ANOTHER serious error. If you expect your customers/clients to respect you and take you seriously you really should find about $500 to retain a professional accountant. Think of the impression you give - not enough money to retain an accountant, not enough foresight to put your documentation together in time for a deal. Maybe you should re-think this self-employment thing.

accountant.

morning.

Not really. The lender is requiring the acccountant (a third party) to verify some of what you are telling them.

You had better pick someone from the phone book and be there at 8am then.

Maybe there is an accountant in your church or kids school, that knows you.

I can't write one of those letters for someone that just walks in the door, as I ~don't~ know their situation.

is this letter in connection with obtaining a loan or something from a supplier? sometimes a lender will require this for verification of income or profits in a business. If you do not have actual income from the business then ask about the purpose of the letter,

Yes, it is about a personal loan, not at all related to my business, that needs verification of self employment. And, the package only got here Friday afternoon. And, this letter is the only thing that I'm missing.

then the lender will want to verify previous salary info which should be easy - you can list company addresses, names, etc. But if you included business profits on a loan application then you will probably need to see an accountant.
