What's the relationship with the renminbi and the yuan. According to the Wikipediea the renminbi is the official currency of China, and the base unit is the yuan. But the yuan isn't the official currency of China? I've seen articles that have discussed dollars and yuan, why didn't they discuss dollars and renminbi?

They are the same thing in the above context. The word yuan denotes one unit of a currency, in this case the renminbi. Yuan is also used in Chinese to refer to other currencies, like the English word "dollar". See

I'd read the Wikipedia article before I'd posted. I didn't think it was spectacularly helpful.
