Standardized P.O., invoice and shpping bill

Are the formats of these documents standardized? The reason I ask is that I will be doing some reports from an accounting software package and I would like to use standards where they exist. I have never seen any two of these documents that were the same -- even from the divisions of the same company, so I doubt that there are standards, unless for content.

Thanks, Dave

Not hardly.

Although each business that uses them has formulated some numbering system to meet their needs, I doubt you'll find much in common among any hundred PO numbering systems you look at.

Some basic things that may exist would be a number that reflects the date (month and/or year at least), location/site, or project/job. You can make them as complicated as you have the insight to make them.

**I'm still waiting on a SNL or Mad TV skit about this.**

There certainly are standards - The most common one are the EDI formats for Purchase Orders. HS

When I made the original post I had printed forms in mind, but I'm glad you pointed out the EDI specifications.
