The bank I use has online statements only going back a few months, currently to November 2008. I do get monthly paper statements. Are there any banks that offer access to an unlimited history of account transactions online, or at least transactions going back many years?
One of my banks goes back to Jan 2007, and the other goes back to Dec.
2007.My stock broker goes back to Jan 2000.
I don't trust computer systems to keep information forever because there are always changes taking place such as data format that make old records have a different interpretation than the new record system.

I think Wells Fargo (business account) goes back 7 years.
As Ron noted, there is the problem of software products going away, and data formats being discarded. Probably the best method would be to unload your data periodically into several flat text files, with the formats being CSV, DIF, and SLK. Those formats have been around for a really long time, and hopefully at least one of them would be importable into Excel well into the future.
