Online small business bank with a decent service

I have been with Bank of Scotland for a number of years.

Their customer service is increasingly staffed by a bunch of monkeys who can't do anything other than read standard replies from a piece of paper in front of their nose. They speak with a supposedly engaging Scottish accent but in the end nothing actually gets done.

Their basic deal is that you get free banking if you keep £5000 in the current account.

We also have a deposit account which is a 30 day notice.

We also use them for occassional foreign payments to suppliers abroad; they are so badly organised on the foreign front that we use only snail mail (not fax) for the payment requests.

We rarely have to interact with this outfit; I just use the website access to do payments and print off statements. But lately I had to add a second person (to have read-only access) and BOS totally dropped the ball and just sit there sending out stupid letters. Nobody is actually in charge.

I'd like to move to somebody else.

Is there anybody better?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Abbey is certainly no worse and free for any balance, interest paid on the balance too. I've been using them for my small Ltd. company for two or three years now.

The thing which would concern me with Abbey is what their committment to small business banking is.

What do you mean by that exactly? They certainly claim that their business banking will be free 'for ever'. The presumably means at least until Abbey go bust.

Didn't they get into a whole load of financial trouble recently?

And were taken over by Banco Santander, which should presumably help.
