Small online business needs Current A/C & CC processing

I run a small online business taking online orders.

So far the current account hasn't been a problem as we've done that via the Co-Op Smile bank (under my own name). But we are willing to change for a more suitable deal.

We have been progressing online payments via Paypal where we have access to our receipts in about 5/7 days (turnover approx 80K) but its not the best company due to its association with eBay and tends to fail a lot of customers when they are trying to make payments. Another downer is that we can't accept telephone orders with them as they don't provide a virtual terminal (VT) facility in the UK.

What I want is a banking package where I can have a current account with low/zero fee's, coupled with a credit card payment facility that interacts directly with my shopping cart (OsCommerce) without using a payment gateway like Protx. Obviously I also want a VT or something similar to accept telephone orders.

I have done an application via the HSBC who meet my requirements above, but they have totally messed up my application and can't sort out their mistakes or supply details in writing! So they're out.

I've done an enquiry via the Alliance and Leicester. Their cc transaction people which is done out of house. Sadly their fees are far greater than Paypal and they need a payment gateway as well. So with higher fees and paying a gateway company, they are a non starter. I've received a current account application package from A&L, but left it to one side as they can't offer a cc facility at the right price.

I did enquire with Barclaycard, but they want a gateway, plus I couldn't touch my receipts for 30 days! - No way.

When making enquiries, some people have asked if I'm a member of any trade organisations, which ones do you suggest to get maximum benefits?

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Most credit card processing accounts are going to be more expensive than Paypal. You get what you pay for.

Worldpay, owned by Royal Bank of Scotland, seems to be popular, but expensive. I haven't heard of anyone having problems with them.

Hi, thanks for your input. From my research so far, Worldpay are the most expensive :o(
