Accepting credit card payments - with whom?

I run a small online store and accept most payments online via paypal. Due to turnover they've lowered their charges down to 2.9%.

Now occasionally I get people giving me card numbers to process through paypal, but due to the amount, or them having already used their card via paypal (they then claim they've lost their password, hence handing over their details), I'm unable to process the transaction, so unless the customer can send a cheque, I lose the order.

Therefore I need a backup method of processing credit card payments. I have enquired with worldpay and they want 4.0%. I did make one enquiry to Barclay card, but got no reply!

Who else can I try?

I use a personal current account for all transactions, rather than a business account which doesn't come with cheque guarantee card or credit card, which I need to purchase good.

Nochex would be your best bet. Personally I use Worldpay because I just don't trust paypal and think that, unless you're selling on eBay, it makes your business look like a bedrpoom operation.

Hi Pete,

I've taken a look at Nochex, and it seems good. Its only been a brief look so far and I notice the daily customer limit is 300, so will have to see how easy it is to raise that limit as a lot of our products are just over the 300. Their charge rate is very competitive too at 2.6%, where as Paypal was about 3.4%, but with our turnover they have dropped it to 2.9%

Thanks for your help.

Second that. I'd recommend Worldpay because even despite the fees, accepting credit card payments directly makes you look much more professional.

Since moving from PayPal only to WorldPay (with PayPal as an option), a friend of mine increased sales by around 25%.
