I would imagine you may have difficulty in opening any new accs. But I can't see a problem with existing accounts, just change your address to a friends or get yourself a mailbox from mailbox's inc

Thanks.

I'd rather use a friend/relative than something like Mail Boxes Etc. which relies on the security of `low level' personnel.

I wouldn't ask the friend/relative to open and process the mail though. Apart from not really wanting someone else to see my financial details, there would be a lot of money involved and I wouldn't want to pressure them with the responsibility, especially if something does go astray. This would leave me with having to return to the UK regularly to collect the mail, or the friend/relative bagging it up and forwarding it. This would be inconvenient if a batch got lost in transit and could start getting expensive as there is so much junk mail these days.

I was thinking more of if there are any accounts designed for people without fixed addresses? Perhaps internet or phone accounts that would not use the post at all, but notify me, by email say, if replacement cards are needed, so I can then go and pick them up from an agreed branch. Anyone heard of such a thing?

Thanks.

A credit card from Egg is done entirely over the internet. No paper statements ever get issued. I have an offshore account with HSBC which I also manage via the internet. They have an option to have all statements sent via their internet banking service so, again, no paper statements get sent out.

Its possible to open a post office box quite quickly in many overseas locations. If you think there's going to be one place which you're likely to be coming back to frequently as you travel around you could have mail sent there and pick it up as you pass through.
