Access to bank when using Zone Alarm?

I just installed Zone Alarm Security Suite. I can no longer connect with my bank. The only advice I've been able to find is to ensure that qw.exe has unrestricted internet access, which it does as far as I can tell.

Is anyone else running ZA who might be able to help? Thanks.

First, please post in plain text and turn your word-wrap on.

Thanks!

It's as simple as giving ZoneAlarm permission for Quicken to access the Internet...

In ZoneAlarm: Program Control | Programs | Look for "Quicken Launcher"

Make sure the "Access" column has green checkmarks ("Allow").

Sorry 'bout that, I thought I *did* have plain text turned on. I do have word wrap on.

I've already done exactly what you described. All 5 columns are green checkmarks. Still no connection. This has been going on for a couple of days, so I'm reasonably certain its not a temporary bank-side condition.

Much better on the "plain text" thing. Again, Thanks!

Try shutting down ZoneAlarm, then try connecting to your Bank(s).

If you can connect, it's obviously a ZoneAlarm problem.

If not, ...

Sometimes shutting Zonealarm is not enough because the Truevector portion of Zonealarm is still running. In that case, it may be necessary to completely uninstall Zonealarm before making the test. If the test works, Zonealarm can be reinstalled. The next time the bank is accessed, Zonealarm will ask for permission.

I am using ZA 5.5.094.000. I have no problems accessing anything on the net (that I want to!).

Maybe it would be good to try to check everything for "ask permission" and then to try.

Please note: I have ZA free, not that Suite. There may be things there that do not play in my setup: ZAfree, NAV 2005, etc, etc.

Your comment about the Truevector portion still being present is correct. Sometimes just end-tasking the Truevector process will be enough to test the problem to avoid having to uninstall ZA.

Mike do you have the Privacy features turned on (including Mobile Code Control (MCC)), Privacy > Main tab? If so what are your settings? This is most likely related to these features, and most likely MCC, blocking something your FI is using on their web site.

I would turn on the Privacy Advisor and follow this procedure to troubleshoot this access problem.

1 Go to the Privacy panel>Main tab>Cookie Control Custom button>Custom Privacy Settings dialog box . 2 At the bottom of the Cookies tab is the Privacy Advisor section, check the Show Privacy Advisor box and click Apply then OK.

By clicking the link Click here for details on the Privacy Advisor popup you will be taken to the Site List tab and the offending entry will be highlighted. (note:Depending on where that site is in the list you may have to scroll the window to see the highlighted entry, or look in the Entry Detail window at the bottom of the tab to see the name of offending site) Click the Options button to customize the Privacy features for that site. Try turning off the items the Privacy Advisor lists one by one from the bottom up, then ALT+TAB back to your browser and refresh the page paying attention to what the Privacy Advisor reports. Repeat as necessary, until the web page loads/functions as expected.

Another way would be disabling ZA from within your Startup group, using msconfig or one of the various "Startup Manager" programs.

OK, I have privacy advisor turned on. But it isn't a web page that's being blocked, it's access to the bank via direct connect. In other words, initiating a comm session with the bank doesn't cause the privacy advisor to pop up. I've tried starting a session while watching the list of sites in the privacy | site list tab, but nothing changes there.

When I shut down ZA, the Truevector program seems to end with it. vsmon.exe drops out of the process list. What else can I do?

When you shut down ZA, could you connect?

What bank are you trying to access and what exactly takes place while you are trying to connect? have you tried creating a new quicken file to see if that will connect? This may NOT be a ZA issue.

I was having problems getting transactions to download from BankNorth this past week. It looks like it is connecting but nothing happens. I eventually have to hit cancel. I spoke to the guys at the bank who are fairly new to Quicken and we ended up creating a new file. I had to use the export/import routine to get the transactions into the new file. So far it is working. Maybe it would work for you too. His only guess was that something got corrupt in the file.

See my other post to you. This may not be a ZA issue but a corruption with your existing file. Try creating a new file and set up the accounts from scratch to see if that fixes the problem.

No. Same result, an OL-293-A message. The thing is, this problem started exactly when I installed ZA. I did an online update less than an hour before that installation and it was fine then, as it has been for about 3 years now.

Good question, and I should've already provided that detail. It appears to try to connect, and the "connection animation" at the top of the window starts. However, the animation runs for no more than 2 seconds (where a successful update takes, I'd guess, around 20-30 seconds), and then it shows the connection ending and the Online Update Summary comes up. At the top of that summary it says the error is an OL-293-A, and goes on to explain that that's because Quicken didn't receive a valid response from a server.

At least you are getting a reponse.

Go into the account profile (right click on account and select edit). On the Online Services tab make sure the the Online Payment option is NOT activated. If is is activated then DE activate it and try again. I was getting the same error message if this option was activated. I had not signed up for Online Payment with the bank which is what is causing that error message. This is not caused by ZA, btw.

Can you say "coincidence?"

If ZA isn't running, and you still can't connect, it pretty clear that ZA isn't the culprit.

Have you checked your Windows firewall settings?

But, I *am* signed up for online payment.

The latest is that I've discovered a log file for the comm sessions. Here's a sample entry from the latest attempt (but every one of the last 50 attempts - since this problem started - look the same:

I understood that Mike bought the ZA "Suite". I think that possibly the other parts of the suite do this. I once installed the Symantec Suite (corporate from my work place that included use on a home laptop), and nothing seemed to work anymore. I had to uninstall that sucker, and am now using ZAfree and AVGfree.
