bert whitehead - any recommendations for reading on investment?

thank you, first and foremost to everyone on this site who has generously given me clear, thoughtful and concise advise about where/ how to start investing . . . it is really helping me get in gear.

second, can anyone recommend this guy bert whitehead? i saw him on tv and was going to buy his book/dvd on amazon. i think its called "why smart people do stupid things with their money" . . .

just wondering how sound, in-depth and/or sharp is his financial advice and his viewpoint.

thank you.

I usually try to find an excerpt from the book online, and decide from there whether it's worth my time.

is what the author's web site offers as an example page from the book. If this is typical of the rest of the book, it's not for me. You may decide otherwise. This book should be available at your local library. I find there are some financial books worth reading, but not worth owning. Spending $25 on such a book, would be one 'stupid thing' I'd try to avoid. More important, what is your goal, what do you want to learn or understand better? For some people, who may be 'emotionally conflicted about money', this may be the first book they should read.

A good general rule is to avoid financial books that hint you will be able to "make a killing" if you follow the advice in the book. Any suggestion on the book jacket that profit is assured if only you buy this book and employ its special, secret methods, almost surely spells scam. That is true whether the book is about stocks, real estate, foreign exchange, or whatever. The authors (and publishers) of such books make more money from sales of the books than they ever made in the financial markets.
