barcodes not reading

hi, i'm having an issue with the bar codes on our smaller sticker size all of the sudden not able to be scanned at the pos. we use Code128A.

So, here's the dilemma:

1) We print out on .75"X.75" stickers--so they're small but we've used them for months and they have scanned just fine 2) We just got a new Zebra 110XiIII printer. We were printing mini labels from it just fine for about a week or so. 3) all of the sudden, all of our mini labels can't be scanned at the POS! This is odd because i tested extensively with the same .lbl file using Code128A on the new printer and things scanned fine. But at some point it stopped working because now the same labels won't scan. 4) if we use our old printer to print the labels; same size and barcode type, then it scans fine. 5) Both printers are printing very clearly and dark--i don't think this is the issue.

this may be more of a printer issue than RMS but if anyone has had similar issues, please share...

thanks, kamal

Kamal,

Could the margins be a llittle off? Print the same label from both and make sure that each line is appearing. I've had that problem before where the label is cut off from one side.

Good luck, Matt

no, not a margin problem. funny thing is that the new ones that don't work print at better resolution and precision than ones that do currently work but don't print out as well (from a different printer).

Try lowering the darkness a little. Oddly enough, if the barcode is too dark it's harder for the scanner to read.

Just curious to know, did you ever get this problem sorted out? If so, what was the culprit?

I've experienced the barcode not scanning because it is too far to the left in the label designer, although it is really .2 or .3 inches from the left border. if you line up another field like description or price with the far left of the barcode, see if it prints the starting letters/numbers of those fields. if not, move the barcode the the right (overcompensate if you must) until you are sure it's printed in its entirety.
