PO / Purchase Order barcode # not scanning in ( Symbol LS2208 )

Hello Everyone,

I apologize in advance if this has been covered before. I have done some extensive searching and have found no answers, so I was wondering if anyone else has encountered the same problem, or has a solution to it -

My company has recently tried to scan in a RMS PO's barcode with a Symbol LS

2208 Scanner, and we have had no luck. After some barcode boot camp, we have done the following:

- Identified the barcode on the PO as a Code 93

- Scanned the Code 93 'Enable' barcode

- Scanned / tested every option for Code 93 available to us ( Code 93 - One & Two Discrete Lengths, Length Within Range, Any Length)

No luck. We've even tried I2of5 and a few others just to make sure that we didn't misidentify the barcode, but still no go. Funny thing is, after enabling Code 93, we've been able to scan in Code 93 print outs from the Internet just fine, yet the POs still refuse to come in. We are using a laser printer and barcodes on the POs look fine (no wavy lines). I've read somewhere that you need to have at least 3 digits in the barcode or some such, but I've tried that(Ex - PO # 113) and it's still not working. Anyone else having the same problem?

Data-V,

The issue is that's the bar code is too big for the scanner to work.

We also modify ours so that it uses Code 39 because most scanners work with that barcode style out of the box without having to re-configure it for Code

  1. To fix it;

Either download the attached fixed version of the RMS one.

OR

Go to your PO template, usually in \Program Files\Microsoft Retail...\Store Op...s\Receipt Templates and right click on your PO template. If using the stock one, its PO.xml. Make a copy of it and then right click and rename it to something else, like FixedPO.xml. Then right click on the new one and then into Properties and uncheck the Read-Only box and OK it.

Next, right click on the new one and select edit. If it asks what program to use, select Notepad. Go to Edit | Find and type in "barcode" without the quotes.

If you want to change to Code 39, do the following, otherwise skip to the next step. Go down 4 lines and change the line that starts with Style to ;

msS3of9

Then go down to the line that starts with Barwidth and change the 0 to 15;

15

Close and save it.

Now you need to copy that fixed PO file to each machine that needs to print out a PO.

Lastly you need to tell RMS to use the new fixed PO. On each machine that prints a PO, SO Administrator | File | Connect | put in your password | File | Configuration | Templates tab | click on the magnifying glass at the end of the PO line and find your fixed PO. Close and save it.

If SO Manager was open, close it and re-open it. Print away!

Jeff,

Thanks a lot!

P.S. It didn't work right away, I had to change the barwidth to '0' for whatever reas> Data-V,

Do you have a PO # longer than 6 digits? That would have made it all black.
