StarPrinter SP200

We currently have StarPrinter SP200 that we've had for 7 years. We wanted to bring up a second register and picked up another one on the internet. I thought it was the same as what we had, but it's not. I got the "new" printer in and hooked it up to the new system. I installed the OPOS printer driver, and tried a "health check" - nothing prints. I was going to swap it with our old one just to make sure the new one worked - that's when I found out they are not the same printer at all.

The original as I said we bought new 7 years ago. It has a parallel interface on the bottom of the unit (connected to the system unit with a standard parallel printer cable) along with an RJ11 type plug for a cable running to the cashdrawer. I have it configured as a "SP242FC" via the OPOS printer configuration, and health check does print to it. The bottom of the unit only has SP200 on the bottom along with serial number info.

The new printer has a 25-pin connector on the bottom and no RJ11 receptacle. I connected it to the parallel port on the system unit via a straight 25-pin cable. I tried defining the same to OPOS driver as a SP242FC. Like I said before, health check won't print. The bottom tag has SP200-2 and 212FD on another spot of the tag.

I went to the Star website and downloaded the latest driver just to make sure. It is version 1.8.1. It does not have SP212FD as a choice. I also downloaded the Win XP printer driver and installed it to see if anything works. It installed fine, but again, printing a test page does not print anything on the printer.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Sounds like a serial interface rather than Parallel. You probably only have a 9 Pin RS-232 port on your computer, so you're either going to need a different cable or an adapter - you should be able to find either at any electronics store.

Tried hooking up to COM1 - defined it as a SP242FD in the Star OPOS printer config since a 212 is not listed. Same results - nothing prints. Next suggestion???

Do you mean the regular Windows XP printer driver? I tried that. I had previously downloaded the the Windows XP printer driver from the Star website. I told it the printer was attached to COM1 - since according to Glen Adams it appears I have a serial unit - and tried printing a test page - it never printed.
