Barcode Printer

Can anyone recommend a good barcode printer? We are using Cognitive Advantage right now, but we are having alignment issues with it. Basicall it will from time to time print too low from the top margin, and another bigger issue is that the label seems to always get move, which makes everything out of alignment.

I was looking at Datamax I Class printer, anyone has any experience with it?

Thanks, Natt

Zebra printers seem to be one of the most widely used barcode printers out there...

Natt, how many labels are you printing on a daily basis? (just look at the # of items sold in a month and divide by thirty for a rough estimate). I really hate our Cognitive Del Sol printers, the drivers were horrible and nothing ever just worked like it was supposed to. I suppose we were printing a lot of labels on them but it wasn't that the hardware broke down it was just that the software drivers were so crappy that the printers would always misalign or print out 20 blank stickers for no reason (more than one printer, more than one occasion).

I just got through installing our new Zebra 110XiIII. This thing looks like a tank, but according to Zebra it's what we needed to handle our 2-5,000 labels/day load. I can't even vouch for it since we've only started using for a couple of hours, but it seems to have very solid drivers and won't give us any trouble at all for months. I decided on the Zebra printer from a reply I got from Glenn Adams here on this newsgroup and I trust his judgement.

If you don't need something so big ($2,500) then Zebra has cheaper models. But, I would stay away from Cognitive. You're having trouble with the Advantage and the Del Sol's we bought suck in my opinion.

Ok, last thing, if you are doing light-weight printing, I would definitely go for a little Dymo 330 Turbo! I love these little printers. their the size of a coke can, they have great drivers and I haven't had a problem with the one we use in the Buying dept. since we started using it. And...they're so cheap! $99 or so. But, we couldn't use it as our main bar code printer since we do so much volume but if you're just printing a couple hundred a day i'd go for this one, save yourself the money and the drama. LabelCity.com is a good reseller:

Hi Kamal,

Thank you very much for your informational reply. One thing about the driver, from what I understand, we are suppose to use Generic Text driver to print from RMS and use their language in a .lbl format using notepad. Either way, the problem that I am having is just the misalign problem like you said and sometimes werid printouts, but the annoying part is the misalign where it would print way too low from the top margin every other 5 labels or the tags would move around.

Well I know that we print at least about 2,000 a day, so that is why I was looking at Datamax I Class.

I'll give Zebra a look, was looking at 400dpi or something. Since our tag is small, I dont' know if using 400DPI will make the barcode easier to scan or not.

Lastly, how does the Zebra 110xiIII handles the label roll? Does it gets move around while printing which makes it out of alignment like Cognitive Advantage?

Thanks, Natt
