I have to liquidate a large number of bonds to settle an estate. Would I do better commission wise by transferring the bonds to Schwab and then selling. Does anyone have any expedience selling bonds through Schwab. In the past, Merrill Lynch has had excessive commissions.

I recently had a client with a similar problem. He was trying to sell stocks in his father's estate that were held by one of the full service brokers. After a bit of negotiation, the broker agreed to reduce his commission to about 1/3rd of the "rate card" amount. However, even that reduced amount seemed kind of high when compared to the discount brokers, so I don't know at this point (I'm kind of busy at the moment) whether the client has made a final decision on this.

Thanks. I doubt if my broker will negoiate. I know for stocks it's a clear choice. But what about bonds? Anybody have experience with a good bond broker?
