Where can I get S&P 500 history?

Jul 22, 2009 2 Replies

In order to monitor my investments weekly, I'd like to get S&P500 closing numbers for each week, going back about a year.

I'd actually also like to get the same for the Wilshire 5000 and for the DJIA.

Anyone know where this data is available?

Yahoo! Finance. Click on S&P and select Hictorical Data.

Be careful to manage dividend reinvestments correctly if you are using this for total return comparisons. Yahoo gives you an "adjusted close" which adjusts the index for reinvested distributions - as of the beginning of the date range you ask for. If you ask for different ranges, even those adjusted closes cannot be compared.

And these reinvestments make a *huge* difference in total return.
