upgrade from Peachtree 2000

Hello,

I have a computer network support client, a private school with several locations, who is still using Peachtree 2000. They understand that they need to upgrade but are not sure what direction to go. They have spoken with Peachtree and have been told that the data from P2000 cannot be converted for use in a newer product. First, is that true? If so, does anyone know of a third party vendor who can do a good job of converting her old data. I read the posts in the ng on MS Small Business Accounting and have asked them to send a demo. She is wary of Quickbooks at least partially because she doesn't find it as versatile as P2000. Is also bothered that once you've closed a year's books in QB, apparently you cannot go back and examine that data. She has three years of data available at all times in P2000. Peachtree recommends their MAS90 product for upgrades from P2000.

She just uses AR/AP. No inventory involved.

Would appreciate any suggestions or comments.

Thanks.

Michael

I've moved a couple of clients from PT2000 to the Windows products. There is no direct conversion, but you can export the customer/vendor information out then clean it up as needed and import it into Peachtree for Windows. Like with other accounting software changes, it doesn't convert the detail; just the list information. It's not that bad to do.

Hi Michael,

I am not sure if P2000 can be migrated to the newer version. These versions have all proprietaries databases and there are no standard. But if you'll have remote locations, like Peachtree says, a good alternative (if the school can afford it) is to migrate to Mas90. Mas90 comes in a 'Peachtree' version which can import the data smoothly. Also with Mas90 your remote connections will be more stable... you can use TS and set it up pretty nicely where you won't need that much maintenance. The only bad thing is the price... depending on how many users you need, it can go pretty high, from $3K and up... Mas90 though offers a 15% discount for Peachtree users. But they should be fine with just G/L, A/P and A/R if they have few users.
