Upgrading from Quicksell 2000 to RMS

Can anyone give me some steps or instructions on upgrading from Quicksell

2000. Is this process very hard? What kind of problems could arise?

You won't have any problem at all in all likelihood. Hire a partner. Pay them a lot of money to deal with it. Make it thier problem.

I may sound facetious, but I am dead serious. Don't skimp on your partner. Hire the best you can find and negotiate for big up-front costs and low (or no) maintenance costs.

If you insist on doing it yourself, it is possible. If you have a pretty standard product line and your database is fairly clean and simple, there is little to worry about. Setting up peripherals, receipt formats, and anything else you have customized will be the hardest part.

Do a LOT of reports and historical recordkeeping because once you upgrade you lose your QS2000 license and lose some of the historical data visibility. You may want to consider buying RMS in addition to QS2000 - not sure what the current discount is for upgrades. Then you can go back and see your detailed history - if you feel you will need to...

Tell us more about your business and customization required. Then we can tell you how much help you need and what to worry about.

When I upgraded my partner recommended installing RMS beside QS. They told me I would have fewer problems with my opos driver that way. I really didn't understand their reasoning for doing it this way, but it worked. I had zero problems getting my printer, drawer, pole display, etc. working properly. It's really a pretty straight forward process. If you set up QS yourself initially you should have few if any problems doing the upgrade. If you didn't install QS yourself you're better off getting a partner to help you with it, although I disagree with spending a lot of money on a partner. Most reputable partners would be able to do the upgrade in a few hours for a few hundred dollars. Make sure you back up the QS data before you start. That way if something happens during the upgrade you would be able to roll back to QS easily as long as you have the installation disk. Also make sure you back up custom reports, receipts, etc. so you don't lose them when RMS overwrites the files. Also if you have any add-ons installed for QS they might not work properly with RMS, so make sure you contact the vendors to see if there are upgrades for the add-ons as well. Craig
