2.0 Matrix Items Default to QOH on hand of 1

Starting in 2.0 of RMS when you create a matrix item all the component items default to a quantity on hand of 1. This is the only item type that displays this behavior. There is no business reason a retail customer would prefer all matrix items default to 1 on hand and other items default to 0. Customers usually prefer to enter any quantities on hand by using purchase orders so they can do invoice matching and have a record of when/from whom that 1 item was received. It is also very unusual for a retailer to purchase only 1 of every matrix component so nearly every on hand quantity needs to be manually adjusted. This is very time consuming.

Suggested fix: The matrix creation process should match other item type's creation process and default all matrix components to an on hand quantity of 0.

It also doesn't make sense that if you create the item using the item creation wizard it defaults to an on hand quantity of 0, but defaults to 1 if you press the new button on the item lookup window. Why would a retailer want the defaults to change based on the method they use to create a matrix item?

you may want to test the Matrix items in other ways, there are some other quirks too.

the problems i experienced were mostly due to the database upgrade process (search my old posts), but i also noticed that when trying to correct improper information in the matrix fields, the matrix form is very uncooperative and usually reverts to what it thinks you should have in the fields.

I installed the latest hotfix 2.0108 today and this issue has been fixed. It now defaults to 0.

Kinnard,

Do you have the list of what is fixed in 2.0108. Microsoft has only documented 107 so far.

Thanks,

Good morning Kinnard,

Thank you for posting about the new hotfix that was released yesterday; and an issue you encountered while installing it and how you were able to resolve it.

Here are the issues resolved in this hotfix:

  1. Creating a matrix item should create an entry in ITL
  2. Unable to change item tax if creating new matrix item from within POS
  3. New matrix items created with a quantity of 1 and no entry in the InventoryTransferLog table
  4. Unable to select previously defined sub descriptions when creating a new matrix item if the option is enabled in Manager
  5. The Sub Description names entered in Captions are not reflected on items with a type of M (matrix)
  6. The item sub descriptions are showing in the matrix component items pane as detail lines
  7. No prompt for reason code if inventory adjustment made in the matrix quantity view tab.
  8. Bar code format is added to component items when a matrix is created
