Backup RMS to CD

Nov 21, 2006 4 Replies

When I try to backup RMS to RWCD I get 'You do not have permission to save in this directory' Although drive is shareable to group 'everyone' and 'full control' is allowed. I'm a admin user and it will let be backup to c: folder and 'copy' bck file to the same cd drive with out any problem.

The file is actually being saved by the service account that SQL Server is running under. You can create a batch file to run the backup then copy the file - backup scripts have been posted here (try searching Google Groups) and I think there is one in the Knowledge Base...

You can use the RMS backup utility to create a .bck file that can be drag & drop copied to CD.

You cannot backup directly to CD.

Better yet back it up to a removable hard drive or jump drive. CD's can get optical errors that you won't know about.... Until you need the data. You can get 1gb jump drives for about $50 and they're a lot faster than CD burns.
