Barcodes on receipt

How are the barcodes on the receipt used. Can they be used to recall a
layaway for payment or for a return. I have tried to scan the receipts but
they don't seem to work.
Thank
Melissa

hi melcort, yes you can use to print the barcode. you must modify the template if it not come by default. go to so manager> Database> Registers> Receipt Format and then click on the reciept you are using then make sure the show barcode is true. go through the properties you will find it.
Secondly you can use this barcode for any recall function. The barcode print only if the printer support it i.e. some printer does not support this.

OK, I now have the barcode printing on the receipts. A customer comes in to make a layaway payment or for a return. How do I recall the transaction with the barcode on the receipt?

hi Melcort, you can recall any transaction by pressing F11 Key and then there is option recall ...... select the type and then other window will open with date give first day of operation or anything minimum date then it show you all the transaction just scan the code in the receipt. I have doubt that this process is long and you may not like it and second you can recall a payment but transactional related information only.

What type of scsanner do you have? By default, Metrologic scanners (and maybe HHP) cannot scan barcodes with digits smaller than 4. So for example, if you have a transaction number in the >4 digit range, the scanner might not be picking it up. You can test your scanner by opening up notepad and scanning the receipt, see if it outputs the number, if not, reprogram the scanner, or better yet, increase the starting transaction number to 1000, then retry the test.
