CC Error - "EB: Check Digit Err"

Feb 29, 2008 1 Replies

I just received the following error on a CC trx, "EB: Check Digit Err". I have never seen this error before and find nothing on Customer or PratnerSource about it. Anyone know what this error represents?

Back history:

- The store processes on a TSYS platform.

- The store has been in operation for 2+ yrs with no prior Technical Errors

- Other CCs of same type work (i.e. Visa for this issue)

- Store is related to customer, so retaining info will not be difficult

- Store is verifying CC number with customer now, will post back if the error is related to a bad CC number.

I love my credit card issues - but in all my time I have never seen this one.

Googled "EB: Check Digit Err" and found this.

&issueF Basically it means the digits entered failed to pass a check digit test and could not be verified. Credit card numbers work like UPCs in that the numbers must pass a check digit validation or the preceding number string is invalid. This could mean the cardswipe did not accurately grab the numbers off the card, or the card number was manually typed in with transposed or incorrect digits.
