In a nutshell, yes it should work in the typical optometrist/ophthalmic office.

However, your approach really depends on what kind of inventory you manage and the services you provide. ie - if you purchase uncut lenses, do all the cutting and edging yourself, and need to capture the whole process in POS, then you need to use work orders; while if you only purchased pre-cuts and frames you could assemble them as kits or just sell them as individual line items.

I can't really see any part of the process that RMS can't handle - however that's just my opinion, and I have been wrong before... ;)

There's a lot of specialized patient/customer data that an eyeglass shop would need to store - like prescription and frame size.

RMS allows 5 custom strings, 5 custom numbers and 5 custom dates per customer. These are PER CUSTOMER, there is no way to track their changes over time.

It also allows, but does not force transaction and line item comments.

I don't think that RMS would work very well for this type of store, unless there are other systems that are dealing with the specialized data (and the entry of that data). From a perspective of just maintaining inventory and recording sales, sure it can do that...

There is an add-on for eye that gives the local optometrics the ability to place the prescription info for eye glasses and lenses. For more info contact me.

I believe RMS would be a fit in smoothly in a Eyeglass business. RMS works well in serial number tracking, customer reporting, gift card/voucher usage, and also can extend to go for customer loyality programmes.
