Gift Receipts

How would a customer be able to offer gift receipts?

The other thing you wil need to do is set up a second printer to print the gift receipt. I have added the receipt printer ( we use an Epson TM-T88IIIP) with a Windows driver so the system thinks there are two printer (you probably don't want to set it as the default either). Then in Store OP Manager set the second printer in the register list in the properties list as a window printer with the same name, select your receipt printer option, and use the template Rob suggested.

Sean,

You can use the same printer that is defined in the Printers and Faxes window for both Receipt Printer 1 and Receipt Printer 2. Just toggle Receipt Printer 2 to Do not print receipt but Journal receipt that way at the pos you can press Shift + F11 - Reprint and it will print your gift receipt.

Rob,

Thanks I'll have to try that we are new to RMS and I am hunting these discussions for anything helpful.

Cheers!

Sean,

Is your RMS Partner not helping you set the system up? Even though I could teach someone how to use the system in 15 minutes, it can be very overwhelming for a newbie with all the different settings and options. It is almost worth the time and money to pay a partner $400-$600 to help setup and train on the POS. But that is my opinion and everybody has there own reasons for doing things.

Hi Rob,

I gave your suggestion a try and had mixed results.

Problem: I want to print a standard sales receipt with pricing and a second gift receipt without pricing when needed from the same receipt printer but with different receipt templates. Also, I have another network printer set as the default printer to print full page reports from the same POS station.

Your solution works fine if the receipt printer is set as the default printer and printing reports from the same POS station is not needed. Also, the Windows drivers print slower than the OPOS drivers. If I try to use OPOS drivers for printer 1 and printer 2 RMS gives an error "printer is being used by another application" when trying to print the gift receipt. See the different scenarios below for my results.

Scenario 1: Using the same printer set printer 1 to "automatically print receipts" and use Windows drivers for printer 2 set to "do not print receipt" but to journal receipt. Then use shift + F11 to print gift receipt. Result 1: If using Windows driver for printer 1, the sales receipt prints slow, and printer 2 prints to my default injet printer instead of the receipt printer.

Scenario 2: Using the same printer set printer 1 to "automatically print receipts" and use Windows drivers for printer 2 set to "do not print receipt" but to journal receipt. Then use shift + F11 to print gift receipt. This time I set the receipt printer as the default printer. Result 2: If using Windows driver for printer 1, the sales receipt prints slow and printer 2 prints the gift receipt from the same receipt printer. New Problem:Since you cannot select a printer in Manager to print reports you must switch the default printer or switch workstations for reports.

Scenario 3: Using the same printer, set printer 1 using OPOS drivers to "automatically print receipts" and use Windows drivers for printer 2 set to "do not print receipt" but to journal receipt. Then use shift + F11 to print gift receipt. Result 3: If OPOS drivers are used for printer 1, the sales receipt prints very fast, and printer 2 prints to my default inkjet printer instead of the receipt printer.

Scenario 4: Using the same printer set printer 1 to "automatically print receipts" and use Windows drivers for printer 2 set to "only print after asking cashier." Also, the receipt printer is not set as the default printer Result 4: If using Windows driver for printer 1, the sales receipt prints slow, (very fast with OPOS drivers) and printer 2 prints to the receipt printer when a gift receipt is needed. And, I can still print reports from the POS station.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Sean

Sean,

SO Manager | File | Configuration | Options | POS Options | check share OPOS printer with other apps box. then setup the OPOS drivers for the printer.

Use OPOS for printers 1 & 2. There is an option in SO Manager File/Configuration that says "Share OPOS printer with other applications" - you want to check that.

Generally if you have the Windows driver installed for the receipt printer, OPOS will go insane, not sure why it seems to be working ok for you with both installed...

$400?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Thanks for the great laugh.

Minium $2000 for setup and training....got quotes from several vendors and decided to just do it myself.

I am an RMS Partner and have done many SIMPLE setup installation with basic training for $400. For $2000 I could have gotten you setup, completely trained and provided support for the entire year. But then again not all RMS Partners charge the same rates for support, we charge $100/hr some I've heard some charge up to $175/hr and again some charge flat fees, so it all depends on who you talk to, if they come onsite, if the need to travel, if they charge you a per diem and so on... Never the less this is how it should break down to get you setup by a Certified RMS Partner that knows what they are doing.

10 min to install software on each machine 10 min to setup and test peripherals for each machine (most Partners would have insisted that you get certain peripherals that are tried and tested, this saves a lot of time and money) 15 min to go over the basic of the screens in Manager 15 min to go over creating Dept, Cat, Suppliers and Items. (if you have files to import these could be prepped before hand and imported in a matter of minutes) 15 - 20 minutes on PO's creating and receiving 15 - 20 minutes on Reporting running and filtering 30 - 45 minutes on POS So on the high end for a 1 lane store I could have you setup in 2.5 hours of my billable time at $100/hour for a total of $250. Which leaves a window of 1.5 hours left for the unexpected which are bound to come up. The rest of the functionality can be learned on the fly using the Help file. If you required any add-ons time would be adjusted accordingly.

Rob

Thanks for all the help everyone (Rob, Jeff, and Glenn) :-)

Happy Holidays to all,

Sean
