Is it possible to do a 'buy one - get something free' or even 'buy one - get something at a discount' offer on a whole department?
Eg. If a customer buys a pack of CD's or DVD's i want to offer them a pack of CD markers for half price.
If that isn't possible, can I add a message to all items in a department reminding the staff to offer the deal when items go through the till?

In Store Manager, go to database / discounts, new, and set up the mix & match or buy x and get y for z option. In your case I think you want buy x...then what you need to do is go into each item, and under the discounts tab of the item select the discount you created. Best of luck.
I wrote a custom add-in for our operations that i think does what you are asking. In our case, it applies a 25% discount to any item that is in department B, but only if there first is an item from department A on the invoice too. it is triggered by the AddItem hook. This doesn't require us to set up a discount in manager, because in our case it would be far to much work to set this up for the amount of items we have in each department. Is this what you are trying to do?
